Jackling Introduction to Engineering

Deciding on an engineering career can be difficult, especially if you’re not sure exactly what being an engineer involves. Whether building blast resistant buildings, producing clean energy, designing components for automobiles, or a wide variety of other engineering jobs this program was developed to give high school juniors and seniors first-hand knowledge of what engineers actually do. The “Intro” course will help you understand how mathematics and the sciences relate to engineering, and if engineering is a career choice for you.

Attendees will have an opportunity to select up to four programs for visits and hands-on experiences including state-of-the-art computing.  An introduction will be given on each discipline during the first couple of days.  After the introduction, they will then choose the four programs they want to visit. These programs are:

Applicants should be entering their junior or senior year in fall 2008

Typical Day

  • Morning - Lectures and demonstrations
  • Afternoon - Visits to and hands-on activities in departments, labs, and computer labs
  • Evening - Meet Missouri S&T students, view special presentations, and participate in recreational activities

Fees & Registration

$475 - Resident Registration
$375 - Commuter Registration

Course notes and laboratory supplies will be provided and are included in the fee. All participants will get to pick out a T-shirt or selected Missouri S&T apparel item from the University Bookstore.

Resident fee includes dinner Sunday through Wednesday and both breakfast and lunch Monday through Thursday.

Commuter fee includes dinner on Sunday, lunch Monday through Thursday, and two evening picnics.

Accompanying person may eat Sunday dinner for an additional $10.00 each.

Participants must provide their own transportation to and from Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Cancellation Policy

Missouri S&T reserves the right to cancel its programs in the event of insufficient registrations, severe weather or natural disaster. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified immediately and all fees will be returned in full. Persons wishing to cancel their registration must do so one week (7 days) prior to the first day of their chosen session. No refunds will be made after this date.
