The following electromagnetic compatibility and signal integrity continuing education opportunities are available through the Missouri University of Science & Technology Distance and Continuing Education Office:
1. Video recorded non-credit courses
Video recorded non-credit courses are available that cover various aspects of electromagnetic compatibility and signal integrity. The detailed content, cost, and registration process for each course can be found through the links provided.
a. EMC Principles-Video Course (36, fifty-minute video-recorded lectures by Dr. Todd Hubing)
b. Grounding & Shielding plus Circuit Board Layout-Video Course (20, fifty- and sixty-minute video-recorded lectures by Dr. Tom Van Doren)
c. Signal Integrity for High-Speed Digital Design-Video Course (40, fifty-minute video-recorded lectures by Dr. Jun Fan)
2. The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Certificate Program
An Electromagnetic Compatibility Certificate is awarded for the successful completion of any two of the video recorded non-credit courses listed above.
3. Live, On-Site Electromagnetic Compatibility courses
a.
Grounding and Shielding of Electronic Systems-Live Presentation
This course is a 2-day on-site presentation of basic EMC principles at the circuit board, chassis, and system levels.
b.
Circuit Board Layout to Reduce Noise Emission & Susceptibility-Live Presentation
This course is a 1-day on-site presentation of basic EMC principles applied to the design and layout of multilayer printed circuit boards typically inside of a metal enclosure.
4. Professional Development Hours for EMC/SI Courses
Proof of continued professional development is required in some states for maintaining registration as a professional engineer. Typically 15 hours of professional development are required per year. Missouri S&T awards one hour of professional development for each hour of course length to a person who successfully completes a graded evaluation for that course. Each of the video recorded non-credit courses is available with a final exam. The appropriate number of professional development hours is awarded upon successful completion of the final exam in any course. There is NO additional charge for the grading of the final exam and the awarding of the professional development hours. The final exams in each course cover the basic principles and are not difficult to pass for anyone who watches all of the video sessions and makes an effort to understand the concepts. The final exam may be taken more than once if necessary.
