Program Description: In our highly technical and automated world, there is a continual and growing demand for mechanical engineers. Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines you can enter. Mechanical engineers work in a wide spectrum of industries – aerospace, automotive, bioengineering, communications, food processing, petroleum, product manufacturing, etc. Missouri University of Science and Technology’s master’s degree program in mechanical engineering offers a comprehensive education in a wide variety of areas.
This is both a thesis and non-thesis degree program. The thesis degree requires a minimum of 21 credit hours of coursework and 9 credit hours of research. The non-thesis degree requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of coursework, up to 9 hours of which can be from out-of-department courses.
Admissions Requirements: BS degree with GPA ≥ 3.0 or BS with GPA ≥ 2.75 (conditional admission) and GRE V+Q ≥ 302 (1100 based on previous scale) and GRE AW ≥ 3.5. International students: In addition to bachelor's GPA and GRE requirements, TOEFL IBT ≥ 88 or satisfactorily complete an approved English Language Institute program. Applicants who have successfully completed a graduate certificate program from Missouri S&T are eligible for automatic admission into the mechanical engineering masters program and need not satisfy the above requirements.
Application Requirements: Along with the application forms, you must submit copies of your transcripts, GRE scores, a statement of purpose and three letters of recommendation. For more information on the application process, and to download application forms, go to Admissions and Enrollment.
Delivery Format: Courses are delivered over the Internet, via live streaming video; collaborative learning software includes WebEx and Blackboard; classes are archived online for review and easy access.
Graduate Certificates Graduate certificate programs are a great way to start earning college credit toward a graduate degree. The GRE is not required to enter a certificate program. If you complete a certificate program with a grade of B or better in all core courses, you may be accepted into the corresponding master's degree program without taking the GRE.
