Mining
Engineering Graduates of Missouri S&T's mining engineering program are recognized as coming from one of the country's finest mining departments. Coupled with that is the fact that the demand for mining engineering graduates will continue far into the future. Almost every major metropolitan center in the United States is near important mining activities. The mining industry is so widely distributed and the opportunities within it so diversified that the mining engineer has a wide choice of locations and activities for a career In addition to designing, planning and management of raw material production complexes, mining engineers are employed in modern construction and engineering projects such as tunneling for highways and power stations, underground openings for weapons systems, and dam and highway construction. Courses are offered via DVD, CD and Blackboard, depending on the course. The master’s of engineering degree in mining engineering requires 33 credit hours of approved course work. Systems
Engineering Students on campus as well as off campus can enroll in this degree program. A program director handles admissions and coordinates student advising. Technical specialty tracks are contributed by all of the cooperating departments with the core courses taught by engineering management and systems engineering. The degree provides structured training in systems engineering to equip engineers with skills that can be used in the design, operation and maintenance of systems throughout their life cycle. The techniques covered and concepts introduced will be applicable to any industry. The broad application of these techniques is necessary as the engineering systems of the future become more complex, making them difficult to design and operate without an understanding of the whole and effective integration of all components, both in design and operation and disposal. The program consists of 18 hours of core courses and 12 hours of specialty tracks. The core topics subdivide into two areas: systems and management. Specialization tracks provide students with the ability to address their technology education needs in the context of the overall system engineering program.
